Reading Hypnotherapy for Trauma & PTSD

Are you suffering from trauma?

Is the past very much in the present for you sometimes? Do you sometimes struggle to live in the here and now?

The word trauma means very different things to different people but if something that’s happened in the past is still affecting you today, still comes to mind when you would rather it wouldn’t, you may be suffering from trauma.

Trauma can result from a single big event that either happens to you or someone you care about or even that you witness in some way. Or else multiple smaller “drip drip” events over time can have the same effect.

How does trauma affect you?

You may experience flashbacks, or unwanted physical sensations, negative feelings or perhaps a numbness – an absence of feeling when you most want to feel. A sense of detachment.

Trauma can have the tendency to make us develop inaccurate, negative beliefs about ourselves and the world around us. We then view ourselves and the world through the distorted lens of these beliefs and things start to look and feel pretty scary. And beliefs are  just that – we believe them. They may not be true but we are absolutely convinced.

Sometimes we’re well aware of these beliefs, even if we can’t understand why we have them. Other times they’re just below the surface of our awareness, but nevertheless driving how we feel and behave towards ourselves and others. This can leave us just plain confused – “Why did I react like that”?

How I can help you

I offer Hypnotherapy and EMDR or a combination of the two approaches, where it makes sense for my clients to use both approaches.

Hypnotherapy and EMDR can be very powerful allies in tackling your unwanted thoughts, images and feelings that are part of living with PTSD and Trauma. EMDR is one of the NHS recommended treatments for PTSD and can be very effective at changing the way you think and feel.

An holistic approach

As well as working through  the psychological effects of your trauma it's also important we acknowledge and work through the physiological effects of your trauma. Part of our work together will be re-teaching your nervous system that you are now safe and encouraging your body back to getting used to feeling relaxed. Both hypnotherapy and EMDR give us techniques to help us do this and address any hyper-vigilence you may be experiencing.

As well as the work we'll be doing together in our sessions, I’ll also teach you practical techniques you can use at home to help you feel calmer whenever you need to.

Please do get in touch if you would like to book a free initial consultation to find out more about how I can help you.
