Reading Hypnotherapy - Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
How CBT Hypnotherapy can help break the viscous cycle of negative thoughts and feelings
Are you looking for CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) to help you change the way you think and feel?
May be you suffer from Anxiety, Panic, Worry, Fears, Phobias, Chronic Pain or Sleep Problems? It can be so frustrating when we find ourselves in a vicious cycle of negative thoughts, leading to negative feelings, leading to us having unhelpful behaviours. We can find ourselves avoiding doing things we really want to do or conversely doing things we’d rather not.
This cycle can then be fuelled by negative beliefs we can develop about ourselves such as “I’m a failure”, “I am just not good enough”, “I’ll never sleep well again”, “I’m useless”.
With CBT Hypnotherapy I can help you learn the skills to break that pattern, halt that cycle, so you then have the space to learn to think and feel differently.
With CBT we focus on changing thoughts and feelings that we’re having today, rather than focusing on issues from the past.
CBT stands for Cognitive Behavioural Therapy – it’s a therapy that helps you by changing the way you think (the C part of CBT) and Behave (The B part of CBT).
Why choose CBT combined with Hypnotherapy?
Research has shown that most of our thoughts and feelings are produced outside our conscious awareness, automatically if you like. So how we’re feeling day to day could be negatively influenced by deeper thoughts, feelings and negative self-beliefs that we aren’t aware of.
You may already be familiar with this idea. For example phobias are really common and you may well know someone with a phobia of some kind. If so, they’d be able to tell you that even though logically, rationally they know whatever they fear is not dangerous - they have no conscious control over their response. The thoughts, feelings and physical sensations they experience happen so quickly that they have no time to intervene.
This is one reason why I combine CBT with Hypnotherapy. Hypnosis allows me to guide you into a relaxed state of internal focus, so together we can shine a light on any deeper subconscious thoughts, feelings or self-beliefs that are influencing how you’re feeling and include those in the changes we make together.
I believe this means the changes can be more effective and longer lasting.
Re-programming the brain with new more positive thinking patterns
One way of thinking about what we’re doing with CBT Hypnotherapy is re-programming our brains with new, better thinking patterns.
The brain’s a quick learner – it’s why we can develop a fear of something after a single bad experience. Every time we experience something similar our brain recalls that experience and gives us an appropriate reaction – effectively the message “stay away from that, it didn’t work out well last time”.
Fortunately our brains are never too old to learn new patterns, our brains can re-learn and replace those old, unhelpful patterns. Scientifically put we can build new neural pathways. And that's what I can help you do.
